Boarding School Guardians
Boarding School Guardians act on behalf of international pupils’ parents while their children are studying in the UK.
Guardians have a responsibility to support the students in their care in ways that help them to thrive and make the most of their time at a UK boarding school. They provide a home from home (homestay), where the student can go at leave (exeat) weekends or other weekends by arrangement with the school, and during half-term and other school holidays.
The guardian acts as a link for the student: someone who will take an interest in their work and progress, who will attend parents’ meetings (and report back to parents afterwards), and generally monitor the academic and social development of the students in their care.
They are also a vital point of contact for the school – for example, in an emergency where a student falls ill and needs to be away from school for a time, and is unable to return home. The guardian will be expected to assist with medical and possibly insurance arrangements, and to keep in close communication with the school.
The guardian will also be contactable at any time 24/7 (emergencies), whether to talk about a problem that may have arisen, or simply to discuss travel arrangements, for example, for the end of term, when a student may stay overnight with a host family before the long journey home.
In the same way that nobody would expect an airline to fly without cabin crew, or a hospital to run without nurses, no school should expect an international student to be enrolled without a UK-based guardian. Parents need to be reassured that, as their children’s care is of the greatest importance throughout their time in the UK, schools, guardians and the parents themselves can work closely together to support it. The right guardian can make all the difference.
Ultimately, the guardian will do everything possible, to safeguard and promote the student’s welfare working closely and openly with the schools and parents at all times 24/7.
Brilliant! You're company efficiency is totally amazing and helpful.
Mr Joe Wong, Parent Lancing College
I will need to personally email and thank you and the host family that my daughters stayed with over the weekend for their kind gesture. Their thoughtfulness towards understanding the need for a girl of my daughters age to feel secured and cared for, I am not taking for granted.
It was such a relief when she told me that you had already arranged for a packed lunch and the family provided all their favourite foods.
This ones, (host family) you, certainly hand-picked ! And I thank you for that.! With many like them, there is still hope in the loss of empathy in humanity.
Have a lovely day
Patience Evans, Parent St Mary’s
Thank you for your mail with Peeranut’s travel arrangements attached. Very efficient, as always.
Can I take this opportunity to thank you for all your brilliant support throughout the year and to wish you a lovely summer.
Peter O’Donoghue, Head of Boys Boarding, Bournemouth Collegiate School
Hope things are fine with you. Now the school is over and Sarah is now on her way home...
Therefore, I would like to say thank you for all your kindness and hospitality that has been extended to Sarah all this time. Unfortunately, I didn't attend the Speech Day this year so I didn't have the opportunity to express my gratitude personally to you. Hopefully someday somewhere an opportunity would arise for me to do so.
I wish you and the whole family a joyful summer break...and all the best for the future.
With warmest regards
Rita Tjahjadi, Parent Prior Park College, Bath
Thank you kindly for the travel details that you have sent through for both Natalie and Edith for the end of this term and start of next term - you are very well organised to be this far ahead! Many thanks for clarifying and sending on details for the other girls. It certainly makes life easier when return arrangements are sent in and you are one of the few agencies that does this; much appreciated!
Helen Tomlinson, Head of Boarding, Rye St Antony School
Thank you for your letter.
I have read the letter word by word, and I also told to Shaobo's mother about your letter. We are unable to express our gratitude to you with words and really appreciate your so considerate care and help to Shaobo. And now we could put our minds at ease. It is so good luck for Shaobo to meet you in UK!
Lou Jirong, Parent, Sidcot School
I am very impressed with your smooth and effective organisation. All the very best.
